The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Government Degree College (GDC), Ganapavaram, in collaboration with the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Ganapavaram, organized a Blood Grouping and Hemoglobin (HB) testing camp on 30.10.2024, as part of the REST FOR HER initiative for the month of October. This program aimed to promote health awareness and address hemoglobin deficiency among rural women and first-year students of the college.
Dr. P. Santhosh, Assistant Civil Surgeon at PHC Ganapavaram, led the medical team in conducting the tests. Rural women and students identified with low hemoglobin levels were provided with necessary supplements and health counseling to improve their overall health and wellbeing. The program emphasized the importance of regular health check-ups, balanced nutrition, and preventive care in mitigating health issues related to anemia.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Dr. P. Nirmala Kumari emphasized the college’s commitment to community health initiatives and stressed the role of education institutions in extending health support to rural communities. She appreciated the collaborative efforts of the IQAC, NSS Units, Youth Red Cross Society (YRCS), and the PHC team in bringing this beneficial program to fruition.
Vice Principal Sri P. Madhu Raju, who attended the event, highlighted the importance of good health in academic success and encouraged students and community members to utilize such health services. Dr. Ch. Chaitanya, IQAC Coordinator, extended gratitude to PHC Ganapavaram for their support and emphasized the role of the IQAC in fostering impactful community-centered programs.
Sri S.Venkanna Babu, YRCS Coordinator, played a key role in mobilizing rural women for the tests and collaborated with NSS Units I and II to ensure smooth coordination of the event. She noted that the YRCS and NSS are consistently involved in various health and social welfare activities, reinforcing the college’s mission of social responsibility.
Faculty, staff, NSS volunteers, and students actively participated in the event, ensuring its success. The Blood Grouping and HB testing camp concluded with a commitment to furthering health awareness and support for rural communities, with future initiatives planned to continue addressing health needs in the region.
