The Women Empowerment Cell, in collaboration with the Youth Red Cross Cell and the Inclusive Cell, organized an Awareness Programme on Cancer Prevention and Self-Examination Techniques at S. Ch. V. P. M. R. Government Degree College, Ganapavaram. The session was conducted by the expert medical team from Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute, Hyderabad.
Principal Dr. P. Nirmala Kumari presided over the programme and emphasized the importance of early detection, health awareness, and regular self-examination for preventing major health risks among women.
The resource person, Dr. Pravallika (DMO), delivered an insightful session on common cancers affecting both men and women, symptoms, preventive measures, lifestyle risk factors, and demonstrated breast and oral cancer self-examination techniques. Students were sensitized on the need for regular health checks and timely medical consultation.
The programme was attended by Lions Club Governor Sri Epuri Satyanarayana and Lions Club Ganapavaram President Sri Vellanki Naresh Kumar, who appreciated the college for organizing health awareness activities and encouraged students to adopt preventive healthcare practices.
The event was graced by Vice Principal Dr. K. Swarupa Rani and IQAC Coordinator Sri K. V. Ganesh Kumar, who commended the initiative and highlighted the role of health education in shaping responsible citizens.
The programme was coordinated by Women Empowerment Cell Coordinator Dr. Ch. Anuradha and member Smt. P. Bala Manikanta, Youth Red Cross (YRC) Coordinator Sri Ch.Rajababu with active support from faculty and student volunteers.
As part of the programme, students and participants also took a pledge on cancer prevention and self-protection, reaffirming their commitment to regular health checks, awareness, and responsible lifestyle choices.
Faculty members, non-teaching staff, and a large number of students participated enthusiastically, making the programme highly interactive and impactful. The event concluded with a vote of thanks expressing gratitude to the Basavatarakam medical team, Lions Club dignitaries, college administration, coordinators, faculty, and students.
