The Women Empowerment Cell and the Inclusive Center in association with the Dept. of Social Work and NSS Unit – I organized an awareness session on “Social Media & Cyberbullying” in collaboration with the Police Department, aimed at educating students about the responsible use of social media and the risks associated with cyberbullying.
The program included discussions on the following key aspects:
- Safe practices while using social media platforms.
- Recognizing and responding to cyberbullying incidents.
- Legal frameworks and protections against cybercrimes.
- Encouraging ethical online behavior.
- Harmful effects of ragging
Experts from the Police Department shared real-life case studies and emphasized the importance of maintaining digital privacy and security. They also addressed queries from students, providing clarity on how to report and handle cyberbullying. Sri M. V. Subhash, Circle Inspector of Police and Sri A. Mani Kumar, Sub-Inspector of Police, Ganapavaram was invited as resource persons for the session. They detailed students about the unique features of ABHAYA in particular and harmful effects of ragging, substance use, usage of social media, excessive screen time, cyber financial crimes etc. in general. Dr. P. Nirmala Kumari, honorable principal of the college addressed the students and suggested them to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Other police personnel, teaching and non-teaching staff of the college and 125 students attended the session.
