International Mother Language Day Observed-21.02.2026

The Department of Telugu and NSS Units I & II of S.Ch.V.P.M.R. Government Degree College, Ganapavaram jointly organized the celebration of International Mother Language Day with great enthusiasm and spirit.

Presiding over the programme, Principal Dr. P. Nirmala Kumari addressed the students and emphasized that the mother tongue is the foundation of one’s personality, culture, and traditions. She stated that our emotions and experiences are deeply rooted in our mother language and highlighted that the historical background of this day is truly inspiring.

Madam explained that on 21st February 1952, students in Dhaka (then East Pakistan) organized a movement demanding official status for their mother tongue, Bengali. In remembrance of the students who sacrificed their lives in the language movement, UNESCO declared February 21 as International Mother Language Day in 1999.

Vice Principal and Entrepreneurship Development Cell Coordinator Dr. K. Swarupa Rani stated that language symbolizes self-respect and identity, and the development of the mother tongue contributes to national development.

IQAC Coordinator Sri K. V. Ganesh Kumar encouraged students to develop respect for their mother language and actively participate in its preservation and promotion.

Faculty members including Dr. C.H. Chaitanya, Dr. G. Venkata Rao, Dr. G.V. Sharada Devi, Dr. C.H. Anuradha, Dr. G. Venkata Ramana, Sri P. Bhaskara Rao, Sri Shaik Moin, Sri C.H. Rajababu, Smt. Rani Durga, Smt. Bala Manikantha, Smt. A. Shanthi, Sri P.V. Ramesh Babu, Sri S. Venkanna Babu, along with teaching and non-teaching staff and students participated actively in the programme.

On this occasion, various literary and cultural competitions such as Essay Writing, Proverbs & Idioms, Story Writing, Poetry Writing, Antyakshari, Letter Writing to a Friend, and Mother Language Preservation were conducted. Prizes were distributed to the winners.

The programme concluded successfully in an enthusiastic and inspiring atmosphere.

As part of the International Mother Language Day celebrations, various literary and cultural competitions were conducted. The programme was coordinated by Dr. G. Venkata Ramana, Lecturer in Telugu, and was assisted by Dr. Ch. Chaitanya, Lecturer in Botany, in organizing and conducting the cultural and literary competitions successfully.The following students secured prizes:
