Rural Empowerment for Self Transformation for Health, Education & Rights (REST)-11.09.2024

The institution adopted the Rural Empowerment for Self Transformation for Health, Education & Rights (REST) as one of its institutional best practices for the academic year 2024-25. The REST initiative focuses on empowering rural communities through self-transformation in areas of health, education, and rights, aiming to uplift and create awareness among underprivileged sections of society.

As part of this initiative, an awareness programme on “Postal Services – Small Savings” was organized on 11.09.2024 in collaboration with the Postal Department for the month of September-2024. The event aimed to educate participants on the importance of small savings through postal services and to promote financial literacy within the rural community.

The session was led by Sri I. Subramaniam, Postal Inspector, Tadepalligudem who provided valuable insights into the various small savings schemes offered by postal services, emphasizing their role in ensuring financial security for individuals and families. The resource person elaborated on the practical benefits of these schemes, particularly in rural settings, where access to formal banking services may be limited. Ganapavaram Mandal Sub Post-Officer Sri Vijay and other postal department staff participated in the event.

The event saw active participation, with college students and 20 women from the local community joining the session. Their engagement reflected the wider goal of REST—to bring together academic knowledge and community welfare, fostering transformation through education and awareness.

Principal Dr. P. Nirmala Kumari delivered an opening message, reinforcing the college’s commitment to social responsibility and community development through initiatives like REST. She highlighted the critical role of such awareness programmes in creating financially empowered communities, particularly for women, who are often at the forefront of managing household savings.

The programme concluded with an interactive session, where participants had the opportunity to ask questions and receive personalized advice on how to benefit from postal savings schemes. The event was a significant step towards the realization of REST’s goals of education, empowerment, and community transformation.
