World Soil Day – Classroom Awareness Activity-05.12.2025

The Department of Botany, in association with the Eco Club, organized a Classroom Awareness Activity on 05 December 2025 to mark World Soil Day 2025, observed globally to highlight the importance of healthy soil for sustainable ecosystems, food security, and environmental balance. This year’s theme, “Healthy Soils for Healthy Cities,” emphasized the need to protect soil fertility and strengthen soil–water relationships.

Programme Overview

A detailed awareness session was conducted in the Botany Department, where students presented PowerPoint presentations covering important aspects of soil science and conservation. Topics included:

  • Importance of soil in sustaining plant life
  • Causes and consequences of soil degradation
  • Role of soil microorganisms
  • Soil conservation practices such as mulching, contour ploughing, and cover cropping
  • Soil pollution and its impact on biodiversity
  • Sustainable agriculture and climate resilience

The session encouraged active participation and critical thinking, making it a meaningful learning experience for all participants.

Principal Dr. P. Nirmala Kumari appreciated the initiative and encouraged students to engage in environmental awareness programmes that promote sustainability, scientific understanding, and responsibility towards natural resources.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. Ch. Chaitanya, Lecturer in Botany, and Dr. Sk. Parveen, Eco Club Convener, who guided the students and facilitated the smooth conduct of the activity.
