On the occasion of World Cancer Day (04 February 2026), the Department of Zoology, S.Ch.V.P.M.R. Government Degree College, Ganapavaram organized a Cancer Awareness Walkathon to create awareness among the public on cancer prevention, early detection, and healthy lifestyle practices.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Sk. Parveen, Lecturer in Zoology. The event was graced by the Principal, Dr. P. Nirmala Kumari, who highlighted the importance of early diagnosis and community awareness in combating cancer. The Vice Principal, Dr. K. Swarupa Rani, encouraged students to actively participate in social awareness programmes. A total of 20 students, along with faculty members, actively participated in the walkathon by carrying awareness placards and interacting with the local community.
As part of the World Cancer Day activities, Sri J. Venkatesh, Lecturer in Physical Educationparticipated in a 10 km Run event titled “Run for a Cancer-Free Tomorrow”, held at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Vijayawada on 01.02.2026. The event was organized by Manipal Hospital, Vijayawada, and Sri J. Venkatesh was awarded a participation medal in recognition of his commitment towards promoting cancer awareness and fitness.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation and received a positive response from the public, reflecting the college’s commitment to community-oriented health awareness activities.
