The Department of History of S.Ch.V.P.M.R. Government Degree College, Ganapavaram organized an awareness programme on the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre to commemorate the tragic incident that took place on 13 April 1919 at Amritsar, Punjab.
The programme began with the opening remarks by the In-charge Principal, Dr. K. Swarupa Rani, Lecturer in Economics, who emphasized the importance of remembering the sacrifices made during India’s freedom struggle and the need to create historical awareness among students.
The programme was coordinated by Sri P. Bhaskara Rao, Lecturer in History, who delivered a detailed explanation on the Jallianwala Bagh incident. He elaborated on how peaceful protestors gathered against the Rowlatt Act were brutally fired upon without warning by General Dyer, resulting in the death of 379 innocent people and leaving hundreds injured. He highlighted the impact of the incident on the Indian freedom movement and the importance of remembering such historical events.
On this occasion, Principal Dr. P. Nirmala Kumari, appreciated the initiative of the Department of History in organizing such a meaningful programme. IQAC Coordinator Sri K. V. Ganesh Kumar and faculty members Dr. Ch. Anuradha, Sri N. Srinivasa Rao, Dr. Ch. Chaitanya, Sri S. Venkanna Babu, Smt. B. Rani Durga, Sri P. V. Ramesh Babu, Smt. A. Shanti, and Sri Venkatesh participated in the programme.
The programme created awareness among students about the historical significance of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre and instilled a sense of patriotism and respect for the sacrifices made during the freedom struggle.
