World Pulses Day Observed-10.02.2026

The Department of Botany, S.Ch.V.P.M.R. Government Degree College, Ganapavaram celebrated World Pulses Day to create awareness about the nutritional, agricultural, and environmental importance of pulses.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of the Principal, Dr. P. Nirmala Kumari, who delivered an introductory address highlighting the significance of World Pulses Day and the role of pulses as an affordable source of plant-based protein. Faculty members explained the importance of commonly consumed pulses such as red gram, green gram, black gram, chickpea, and lentils in daily diets.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. Ch. Chaitanya, Head of the Department of Botany, and Dr. Sk. Parveen, Eco-Club Convener. Students actively participated in a pulses display focusing on nutritional value, nitrogen fixation, the role of pulses in Indian agriculture, and their contribution to sustainable agriculture. An interactive session encouraged students to adopt pulses-rich diets for better health and nutrition.

The programme concluded with a message emphasizing the inclusion of pulses in daily meals to support food security, combat malnutrition, and promote environmental sustainability.
