The Department of Economics organized a Public Opinion Survey on the Andhra Pradesh Population Management Policy (Draft) 2026 as part of its experiential learning and research-based academic activities. The survey was conducted by the III B.A. Economics Major students (Batch 2024–2027) to understand public awareness, opinions, and expectations regarding the proposed policy.
Using a structured Google Form questionnaire, the students collected responses from 187 participants belonging to different age groups and professions. The survey revealed that 86.6% of the respondents were aware of the proposed policy, while nearly 69% supported the Government’s initiative to address the declining fertility rate through family welfare measures and financial incentives.
The findings highlighted strong public support for maternal and child healthcare (92%), equal decision-making rights for women (86.6%), and free education for girls (84.4%). While many respondents welcomed incentives for families with a second and third child, the majority (72.7%) still considered a two-child family to be the ideal family size.
The statistical analysis indicated that age and profession significantly influenced public opinion, whereas gender, educational qualification, and income did not have a significant impact.
The survey concluded that the proposed policy has received encouraging public acceptance. Respondents emphasized that its successful implementation should be supported by improved healthcare, education, employment opportunities, childcare services, social security, and sustained public awareness programmes.
The activity provided the students with valuable practical exposure to survey research, data collection, statistical analysis, and public policy evaluation, thereby strengthening their research and analytical skills while promoting community engagement.
